Bertrand Grospellier first became known as one of the best players in the world of StarCraft including finishing second at the World Cyber Games in 2001 and continuing his career for some time in South Korea where he is considered a star and is paid as a pro gamer. His nickname ElkY comes from a character name of role play.
With his experience in the game of StarCraft, he first massively multi-tabled on PokerStars SNGs, sometimes playing more than 20 tables at once. Using this technique and playing higher and higher stakes in sit'n goes, he was the first player to achieve Supernova status on PokerStars, then a few months later Supernova Elite status (one million VIP Player Points). To achieve this level, he sacrificed his earnings, his SharkScope curve becoming a source of jokes on some poker forums. But after all games were played he got plenty of fans and PokerStars decided to offer him their sponsoring in live events.
He decided to devote himself fully to poker and quickly made good results, including finishing second in the EPT Copenhagen in 2007. But it is at the beginning of 2008 that he got his first major victory by winning the EPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in a field of 1136 players In 2008, already exceptional, he continued his meteoric rise winning his first WPT title, the Festa Al Lago in Las Vegas for $1.4 million. On January 8, 2009, he won the High Roller $25K PCA for the amount of $434k. Three weeks later, he finished third in the EPT Deauville High Roller event for €77k.
He released the book Kill ElkY in 2009. The book focuses on strategies for No Limit Texas Hold'em poker in multi-table and sit'n go tournaments. As a bonus, players Bertrand explains how to apply the right strategy at the right time, giving the most appropriate tactics and providing new weapons to fight and win in a poker tournament.
In March 2009 he reached the semi finals of NBC Heads Up Championship and won another $125k. A month later, he finished third in the WPT World Championship $25,000 earning $776k, becoming the WPT Player of the Year. In July 2009, ElkY finished 122nd in the WSOP Main Event and won $40,288. In September of the same year, Grospellier managed to beat 1168 players to win Event # 38 on PokerStars WCOOP, winning over $230k. Two days later, he won Event # 43 winning $263k amoung a humongous field of more than 9000 players. In October 24, 2010, he won the Tour de Lille Barriere Poker adding €45,400 to his live tournament winnings.
In 2011 Elky won a WSOP bracelet in 7-Card Stud, a game that he did not know well at all. Hence he got the triple crown that day in addition to the $332k prize.
With more than $7,000,000 in gains accumulated during his career on the live poker tournament circuit, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier is now considered a top poker pro.
